23-24 Bus Transportation Survey
Parents,
There continues to be a nation-wide shortage of applicants searching for hourly jobs. This is especially true for school bus drivers, as we continue to try to recruit applicants.
If you, or anyone that you know has a current CDL with a Passenger Endorsement, or would be interested in obtaining one in order to drive a school bus, please reach out to Assistant Principal Chris Cowan (chris.cowan@bcsemail.org / c. 828-552-2263) to discuss driving opportunities. Classes for obtaining a bus license are being held in the upcoming weeks and are offered at no cost to applicants.
We ask for your support, assistance, and understanding as we navigate these transportation challenges.
If you are confident that you can transport your child to and from school by car/carpool, please indicate this in the survey. We understand that family circumstances may change. Please reach out directly to Mr. Cowan if you need to make any changes to your answer on this survey.
If you are uncertain about whether you can commit to transporting your child, please indicate that you will need bus transportation, and whether it will be for the AM, PM, or both.
There will likely be days or extended periods when we will not have enough drivers. While we will do whatever we can to support your transportation needs, there may be times we must rely upon families to make their own transportation arrangements to and from school.
When changes occur, we will communicate through the school messaging system. Please ensure your contact information is up-to-date in PowerSchool or you may not receive these messages.
To the extent possible, we will transport students with other buses or loads rather than cancel bus routes.
We also are committed to the safety and consistency of the regular routes and will not overload buses. We cannot run additional routes beginning before our typical earliest pickup and drop-off times.
Please complete the below survey prior to August 18th, 2023. After we obtain your input, we will begin preparing bus routes for the 2023-2024 school year.
