This upcoming week marks our last full week before Winter Break. Winter Break will run from 12/20 - 1/4. Students will return on Monday, January 5, for the last full week before exams.
Fall semester exams will be the entire week of January 12; with each morning being an exam and each afternoon a review session for the next day's exam. Friday, January 16, will serve as a make-up / retest day. Any student enrolled in Biology, English II, Math I, or Math III must take their state exam. Certain Career-Technical Education (CTE) courses also require state exams. Students are exempt from non-state exam courses if they meet the following criteria:
A grade of A and 4 absences or less in the course.
A grade of B and 3 absences or less in the course.
A grade of C and 2 absences or less in the course.
Teachers will let your student know if they are exempt from their exam. Like each semester previously, please remember that only waived absences do not count as class absences. Waived absences are typically for hospitalizations, funerals, or other serious events in a student's life; not routine doctor appointments or general illness. Excused absences are not waived absences and do count towards a student's overall class absences. Even if a student has done make-up attendance, it does not count for exam purposes. Attendance make-up allows students to make-up their absences for school-based privileges like parking on campus, attending prom, senior picnic, etc. If a student has requested an absence to be waived, they must have filled out the Waived Days Request Form from Student Services at school and submitted it to the Waived Day Committee. If the committee approved your student's waived day(s), the counselor will have informed your student. Teachers have access to this document and can see if your student's day(s) has been waived. If you have any questions, please reach out to your student's teacher. The last day for attendance for exam exemption purposes will be Friday, January 9.
Finally, if you approve for your student to leave after their first block exam, you must print out and sign this attached sheet. There are four squares; one square for each exam day. When the testing block ends, we will allow these students that have your signature and approval to leave school. It is always recommended that all students stay for the 3 hour review block for the next day's exam.
Also, if your Rocket is in Math 1, Math 3, Biology or English 2 (regular or honors) this semester, please review the information at the following link regarding their North Carolina End of Course Exam and retesting if needed.
