Drum major Ever van Rijssen stands elevated on the football field directring the band. A crowd of people are behind her in the stands. A tuba is visible in front of her.

A recent Buncombe County Schools graduate is hoping you’ll be part of her efforts to make a difference before she leaves for college next month. Ever van Rijssen, who served as a drum major for Reynolds High School, is now orchestrating two upcoming blood drives with the American Red Cross.

“I started donating blood when I was 16, and have given every eight weeks,” Ever shared. “That adds up to about two gallons. It’s something I’m very passionate about.”

As a blood drive host, Ever spreads the word about her events through the community, and greets donors when they arrive. She invites you to join her at either event in the days ahead. The first takes place Friday, July 25 from 12-5 p.m. at Land of the Sky United Church of Christ off of Overlook Road in South Asheville. You can also donate blood Aug. 19 from 12:30-4:30 p.m. at Groce United Methodist Church on Tunnel Road in East Asheville.
