 Welcome to Introduction to Chorus with Mrs. Woppman 


Course Description:

This class allows students to become familiar with the skills of healthy vocal production as well as the expectations of singing in an ensemble.  Throughout the semester students sing a variety of musical styles, develop music literacy skills, and learn to sing in two-part harmony.

Classroom Routines

Students will:

  • Understand and apply the elements of music, music vocabulary and musical techniques by participating in activities that promote proper posture, breath control and mouth shape for good singing tone and expression.
  • Develop sight-singing abilities through Solfege and Curwen hand sign exercises in order to develop the ability to match pitch and maintain a part within the ensemble.
  • Create short melodic or rhythmic improvisations.
  • Analyze music and critique performances and compositions
  • Understand global, interdisciplinary, and 21st century connections

Self-discipline is an important element of music class and performance. Students are expected to be a leader by following all school and classroom rules with a positive attitude. Students should arrive to class on time. Restroom breaks should be taken before or after class time. Students may bring water bottles to class for hydration.

Any student who does not follow the rules listed will receive appropriate consequences. Including, but not limited to:

  • Warning and redirection
  • Reflective writing assignment
  • Parent Referral Form
  • Office Discipline Referral Form/ loss of free time


Class Supplies

  • Pencil – Students should have a sharpened pencil at the beginning of each class. Erasable pens, Pens, Sharpies, and markers are not   acceptable.  


  • Class room participation 50%
  • Written assignments and skill demonstration 25%
  • Responsibility 25%

Grading Scale

  • A 90-100
  • B 80-89 
  • C 70-79
  • D 60-69
  • F 50-59
