McKernan, Nicole - 6th ELA/SS

Hello My Name Is...

Nicole McKernan

I am pleased to introduce myself as your child’s English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher! I love teaching here at Koontz Intermediate. Prior to becoming a Koontz Ram, I spent 3.5 years teaching 6th and 4th graders in Omaha, Nebraska and before moving to Cornhusker Nation, I taught for 4 years in my native state of Michigan.

I am eager to work with you over the course of the 2019-20 school year and will always welcome communication. I am available to speak with you or correspond via email or technology platforms. Please see my contact information below. I will do my best to respond as promptly as possible. Additionally, I strongly encourage you to check PowerSchool often to monitor your child's grades. Your student's online canvas account will allow them to access all weekly homework and vocabulary assignments.

I am sincerely excited to be an educator and team member at Koontz and look forward to a successful school year with your child!

Thank you,
Nicole McKernan

ELA Homework begins August 26th for all 6th grade students.
Please see the ELA Syllabus (handed out at Meet the Teacher) and/or Canvas for specifics.
Students will need to read for at least 30 minutes Monday-Thursday and choose 3 of those days to journal (1/2 page) about their reading in a SSR Journal that we designate in class.
Students will need to bring their journals to class on Fridays and I will check their work. This is a weekly grade!
