Welcome!  Fifth grade is an exciting and challenging year. Our class team is always busy, and you are welcome to drop by and join in. We are glad you are visiting our class website.
I earned my BS and MA degrees in education from Western Carolina University, and am a National Board Certified teacher. I have taught for twenty-five years, twenty-one of those in fifth grade. I have a passion for teaching. I enjoy helping students understand and enjoy math and science. I try to be a lifelong learner, and my students certainly help in this process. I learn from them each day.
I have two wonderful, kind-hearted children. My daughter graduated from Western Carolina University's Honors College. She majored in Biology and Spanish. She currently is working with regional organizations to gather data on local animal species, such as non-game fish, mussels and bats. She is planning to attend graduate school next year. My son is a junior at NC State University. He is majoring in civil engineering. My husband has just retired after thirty-one years as an educator.  We have a sweet black lab named Faith, a cat named Queen Cleopatra, two horses, Truth and Red Thunder, and a mule, yes a mule, named Skagit.
I love looking for unique finds at thrift shops, yard sales and antique stores. I enjoy searching for projects on Pinterest and then trying them out. My husband and I are in the process of building a house. This undertaking is going to keep him super busy in retirement!
Your child is important to me. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Email is the best way to communicate with me, but you can also send notes or call the school office. I will get back to you within 24 hours.
