Meet Mrs. Josey
Mrs. Josey Mrs. Josey is one of the Title I reading specialists at Koontz Intermediate School for the 2017-2018 school year. She is originally from eastern North Carolina and moved to Asheville four years ago from Raleigh. She now lives in Black Mountain with her husband and adorable cat. Mrs. Josey served as Teacher of the Year at Douglas Elementary School in Raleigh for 2011-2012 and received the New Beginning Teacher of the Year award in Pitt County in 2005. She is the 2017-2018 Teacher of the Year at Koontz Intermediate.

She went to East Carolina University for her Bachelor's degree in Education and UNC-Chapel Hill for her Master's degree in Education.  Mrs. Josey is certified K-6 in Elementary Education and K-12 in Literacy.  She has been teaching for 14 years.

Prior to becoming a Title One teacher, Mrs. Josey taught fourth grade for eight years.  She has served as a grade-level chair, leadership team representative, School Improvement Team representative, Literacy Team co-chair, and Buncombe County Association of Educators local representative and Vice President.

Some of her hobbies are hiking, cooking and baking, gardening, advocating for public education, and reading.
