    English Language Arts (ELA):

We’ll continue reading “The Universal Declaration of Human Rights” (UDHR) as we closely read the introduction and delve into vocabulary strategies, including using roots and affixes to solve unfamiliar words.  In reader’s workshop, we’ll make inferences and begin our one-on-one reading benchmarks.  These will take several weeks to complete for all students.  Students will have a reading log as homework this week.  Please sign nightly.  Support the ELA classroom by clicking this Donor’s Choose link!

    Science and Social Studies:

Students took their cells assessment and did wonderfully!  We begin a month long journey through the Human Body!  We will first look at the skeletal and muscular systems.  Students will continue to have assignments posted in Google Classroom to measure understanding on concepts!  Monday, September 18th, students will discuss the  purpose and significance of the Constitution.

Due to the missed school day last Tuesday, we’re starting our multiplication unit on Monday. Students should expect an order of operations quiz on Tuesday. We will review many different strategies for multiplication before we jump into using the multiplication algorithm so that students will have a strong conceptual understanding of multiplication. Once they have proven to me that they understand “the why” and “the how” behind multiplication and have mastered the conceptual strategies, then they will be allowed to use the algorithm.
