Teacher Bio
Welcome to my Classroom
Neal Compton

I grew up in Grundy, Virginia, a tiny coal mining town almost due north of here. In 1998, I graduated from Radford University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Elementary Education). Right after graduation, I moved to North Carolina to teach in the Asheville City Schools system. I taught fifth grade there for four years, then took a job as an AIG teacher/coordinator in Transylvania County. I missed having my "own" students, so after a year there, I went back to ACS.  I was there for 11 1/2 years until I came to Koontz in January of 2015.
I have always wanted to teach 6th grade, but never really wanted to teach in a middle school, so Koontz is a great fit for me.  My favorite subject is and always has been math, well except for that time I took Calculus.
I am married to my amazing wife, Katie (which stays at home with the little ones) and I have three kids.  Ashton my oldest son, is 12 and is in 7th grade at Valley Springs,  Lincoln is 4 and Ava Grace is 2.
My favorite thing to do outside of school is spend time with my family.
I have a 2nd job, working at VisionWorks. So, if you need glasses or need some worked on, come see me there.
With two jobs and three kids, I don't have a lot of time for hobbies but I love obstacle course races, getting in shape for said races, photography, being outside (doing almost anything), volunteering at our church, and watching sports, especially Clemson football and Kentucky basketball. GO UK!
